Visual Fugue

Paintings by Roger Strassman

and New Work by Gallery Artists

Color& Space Antics For Roger Strassman, painting is an exciting and turbulent journey of discovery. It is a constant process of committing a vague idea to the canvas and editing it, simplifying and complicating, as long as it takes, just as an author writes, and then rewrites and rewrites. It is a search for harmonies, color interactions, light and air, depth, space and energetic rhythmic events. With mixed pools of intensely interactive colors on his large palette he uses a broad brush and bold strokes in his effort to evoke a visual fugue for the eye to dance with as it traverses the painting surface.

Strassman has studied painting at the High School of Music and Arts and The Art Students League in NYC and at Yale University under Joseph Albers and Willem de Kooning during his years at the School of Architecture. He has exhibited at numerous galleries and in several private collections.
