Long time friends, Cindy Calahan and Pamela Hill-Byrne, have different approaches to jewelry design. Like so many artists throughout time, they are inspired by nature.
Cindy combs the shores of Nova Scotia searching for sand dollars and beach stones. Once cleaned, the sand dollars are stabilized, strengthened and ready to become the focal part of her designs. With the addition of beach stones, pearls or semiprecious stones, her designs unfold to become pins or pendants set in sterling silver.
With a background in illustration, Pam renders realistic cats, birds or fish in sterling silver, using a technique called repoussé . Her new line, The Portrait Series, incorporates original illustrations of wildlife in silver “frames” which are accented with pearls, or stones to become pins or pendants.
