Pat Silbert’s series of paintings, Passing Visions, opens September 7, 2010
These paintings contain images from nature that echo ancient traditional religious art forms from Italy, Ladakh, and Tibet. Silbert uses iconic compositions to develop images from the natural world as earthly symbols, where all is interconnected, fragile, and sacred. Her travels in Europe, Asia, New England, and painting in her garden inspire and shape her vision and love of earthly beauty. The medium is acrylic on handmade paper collaged on to canvas with gold leaf.
In a time of turmoil, Silbert’s paintings are a reminder of where to seek a source of peace.
Previous to joining Waverly Street Gallery three years ago Silbert has shown in the Washington D.C. area at The Potter’s House Gallery, Zenith Gallery, Kornblatt Gallery, Fredrick Gallery and others. She studied at The Corcoran School of Art, Goddard Collage, and holds an MFA in Writing from Vermont College. Silbert worked successfully for many years as a graphic designer and is also an accomplished portrait artist specializing in “informal family portraits,” oil pastels on paper of children and parents.
