Kanika Sircar's ceramics are influenced by her interest in the meaning and effect of surfaces. She etches, carves and inlays her clay forms, layering them with images and pigments, her results so vividly depicted and meticulously drawn that even black and white lines may hum with the impact of color. In addition to making wall pieces and functional work, she explores the imaginative potential and intimacy of closed and lidded objects through series of boxes variously inspired by maps, textiles, calligraphic systems and a childhood spent in India.
